Description
Gunung Mandurai Basi (2,481 m a.s.l.) is one of seven peaks forming the caldera rim of Lake Gunung Tujuh, an ancient volcanic caldera lake perched at 2,005 m — reputed to be the highest crater lake in Southeast Asia. The entire area lies within Kerinci Seblat National Park (TNKS) in Jambi, which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site 'Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra' (inscribed 2004). The seven rim peaks range in elevation from Gunung Hulu Jujuhan (2,732 m, highest) down to Gunung Hulu Sangir (2,270 m), in order: Hulu Sangir, Hulu Kemarau (2,397), Tarpanggang (2,460), Mandurai Basi (2,481), Hulu Tebo Kanan (2,524), Gunung Tujuh (2,604), and Hulu Jujuhan. Gunung Mandurai Basi is not an active volcano; the whole caldera rim is extremely remote and almost never climbed, with only a handful of dedicated expeditions having attempted to reach all seven summits.
