Description
Gunung Kurik, also known as Gunung Mugajah, is the highest peak in Aceh Timur Regency, Aceh Province. Its reported elevation varies by source: Wikidata lists 2,085 m while hiking databases such as GunungBagging and Hory cite 3,060–3,085 m; this discrepancy has not been officially resolved. The trailhead starts in Desa Uring, Kecamatan Pining, roughly a 2-hour drive from Blangkejeren, and the full round trip requires approximately 14 days through ancient, moss-covered tropical rainforest. In the Gayo language 'kurik' means chicken, while the Acehnese name 'mugajah' translates to elephant mountain.
