Description
Mount Kisokomagatake (木曽駒ヶ岳; 2,956 m) is the highest peak of the Kiso Mountains, the main crest of Japan's Central Alps in Nagano Prefecture, and one of the 100 Famous Japanese Mountains. Built of granite, its upper reaches rise above the tree line into alpine meadows rich in rare flowers such as komausuyukisō (Shinano edelweiss). Its chief draw is remarkably easy access: the Komagatake Ropeway — which has the largest vertical rise in Japan (~950 m) — lifts visitors in minutes to Senjōjiki station at ~2,612 m, right inside the Senjōjiki Cirque, a glacial horseshoe basin famous for summer wildflowers and blazing autumn foliage. From there only a few hundred metres of climbing remain — up the steep Hatchōzaka slope to the Norikoshi Jōdo junction, then over Mount Nakadake — to reach the Kisokomagatake summit. Five mountain huts, a hotel (Hotel Senjōjiki, among Japan's highest) and a campground make it a beginner-friendly alpine destination and a base for neighbouring peaks such as Mount Hōken.

Routes
Rute Senjōjiki Cirque — Kereta gantung → Senjōjiki (2.612 m) → Hatchōzaka → Norikoshi Jōdo → Nakadake → Puncak Kisokomagatake (2.956 m)
Mudah–menengah: jalur pendek & jelas, tetapi tanjakan Hatchōzaka curam dan berbatu; tanpa bagian teknisThe most popular route uses the Komagatake Ropeway (Japan's largest vertical rise, ~950 m), rising from Shirabidaira to Senjōjiki station (~2,612 m) — reached by bus from Sugadaira Bus Center as private cars are restricted. From Senjōjiki the trail skirts the rim of the Senjōjiki Cirque, then climbs steeply up Hatchōzaka to the Norikoshi Jōdo junction on the main ridge. From there hikers cross Mount Nakadake with short ups and downs before reaching the Kisokomagatake summit (2,956 m). One way is usually 1.5–2 hours; many do it as a day trip, but an overnight in a mountain hut allows stargazing and sunrise. Best season is early July–early October; outside it the ropeway still runs but the upper terrain can be snow- or ice-bound and requires winter gear.

Climbing Experiences
Kisokomagatake is popular because the Komagatake Ropeway lifts hikers straight into the stunning Senjōjiki Cirque, leaving a short climb to the Central Alps summit. The clips below are real experiences from Japanese hikers: day trips from Senjōjiki, the Hatchōzaka climb, the Nakadake–Kisokoma–Hōken circuit, high-altitude camping and dazzling autumn colours.
