Description

Mount Kendang is a stratovolcano on the Bandung–Garut border in West Java, north of Papandayan. Wikidata records an elevation of 2,608 m, while Gunung Bagging uses 2,617 m for the summit reached by its described trail; the sources therefore differ. Fumarolic activity occurs on the mountain, including at Kawah Manuk. Trip accounts describe tea plantations below dense forest, narrow ridges and an open depression near the summit known as the savanna. Gunung Bagging reports that ordinary hiking access is closed because of nature-reserve restrictions. The route description here is documentation, not confirmation that recreational access is permitted.

Routes

Via Neglawangi — dokumentasi jalur cagar alam

Akses terbatas; jalur hutan
Sekitar 3 jam naik dan 2 jam turun menurut Gunung Bagging; kondisi dapat memperpanjang perjalanan.

This documented trail from Neglawangi crosses tea plantations and forest before following a ridge to the summit and savanna junction. Gunung Bagging reports Kendang closed to ordinary hiking because of nature-reserve status; special access requires permission. The summit is wooded and water is unreliable. Its approximate timings are three hours up and two down, with longer journeys possible.

Climbing Experiences

Four historical trip accounts describe faint trails, dense vegetation and confusing junctions on Kendang. Rain and separated groups prolonged some journeys. These records document past experiences rather than permission for public hiking; the route reference reports restricted nature-reserve access.
