Description
Gunung Bungkuk is a 1,162-metre peak in Komering Village, Merigi Sakti District, Bengkulu Tengah Regency, Bengkulu Province, Sumatra. The name "Bungkuk" means "hunched" in the local language, describing the mountain's distinctive profile when viewed from a distance; it is also known locally as "Tebo Bulet". The mountain harbours dense primary rainforest with rare pitcher plants (Nepenthes) and jungle fowl. Two ascent routes are available: one through thick vegetation and another over steep rocky terrain reaching gradients of 45–50 degrees, rising to nearly vertical near the summit. Climbing typically requires an overnight camp on the slopes. Though not yet formally developed for tourism, Gunung Bungkuk draws increasing interest from hikers seeking an extreme challenge.
