Description

Gunung Bauwsi is a low hill on the island of New Guinea (Papua), in eastern Indonesia, at roughly 2.32°S 137.43°E — about 3,400 km east of Jakarta. According to digital-elevation-model (DEM) data compiled by GeoNames, its summit stands about 84 m above sea level with a topographic prominence of only ~20 m above the surrounding terrain, making it more of a hill than a tall mountain. The land around it is flat to the southeast but hilly to the northwest; the nearest higher point reaches about 294 m, some 3.2 km to the north. The area is very sparsely populated (fewer than 2 people per km²) with no towns nearby. Detailed information on trails, geology, or local history of Gunung Bauwsi remains scarce; this profile is compiled from open geographic databases and does not yet include climbing records.
