Description

Mount Arjuno is a dormant stratovolcano in East Java, Indonesia, reaching 3,339 meters above sea level and one of Java's highest summits. Its peak, Puncak Ogal-Agil, takes its name from a Javanese phrase describing a rock balanced precariously on a cliff's edge. The mountain forms part of the Arjuno-Welirang volcanic complex within the Tahura Raden Soerjo protected forest, approximately 50 km south of Surabaya and 20 km north of Malang. Hikers approach from multiple trailheads — Tretes to the north, Lawang to the east, and Purwosari to the west — with the dry season from April to October considered optimal. All climbers must register online through the SIPENERANG eSIMAKSI permit system, and solo hiking is prohibited (minimum group of three).
