Description
Gunnbjørn Fjeld (3,694 m) is the highest peak in Greenland, the highest point on Earth north of the Arctic Circle, and the highest point in North America that does not lie on the continental mainland. It is a nunatak — a rocky summit protruding through the ice sheet — in the Watkins Range, a basalt ridge on Greenland's east coast ringed by active glaciers. Because of its extreme remoteness it is almost always climbed as a ski/snow expedition: teams fly from Iceland and charter a ski-plane (Twin Otter) that lands directly on the glacier, set a base camp on the ice, and ascend on snowshoes or skis before switching to crampons and rope for the summit ridge. The climbing is technically moderate, but logistics, Arctic weather, and isolation make it very demanding, with a narrow late-May to early-June window. The peak was first climbed on 16 August 1935 by a British expedition led by Lawrence Wager, and is named after Gunnbjörn Ulfsson, the first European reported to have sighted Greenland.

Routes
Ekspedisi Ski Tiga Puncak Watkins (Gunnbjørn + Dome + Cone)
Ski mountaineering terpencil — beberapa base camp berpindah lembahA longer variant links Gunnbjørn with Greenland's next two highest peaks, Dome (3,683 m) and Cone (3,669 m), moving camps between valleys over 11 days; Dome involves an exposed narrow ridge traverse and ski mobility lets teams add extra peaks in good weather.
SourceRute Normal (dari base camp gletser, sisi barat daya)
Sedang secara teknis, berat secara logistik — salju/gletser; butuh crampon, tali, dan kemampuan glacier travelThe standard route starts from a glacier base camp reached by ski-plane in the Watkins Mountains, crossing the glacier (often hauling pulks) to an intermediate camp near 2,400 m, then ascending on snowshoes and crampons with rope for the icy summit ridge; daily gain 600–1,100 m and an ~11-hour summit day.
SourceClimbing Experiences
Gunnbjørn Fjeld (3,694 m), Greenland's highest peak and the highest point on Earth north of the Arctic Circle, is almost always climbed as a remote ski/snow expedition — a ski-plane landing on the Watkins glacier from Iceland, a glacier base camp, and a moderate but logistically demanding snow-and-crampon ascent, with a short late-May to early-June window.
