Description

Gumuk Sepikul — also called Gunung Sepikul — is a gumuk (small hill) in Pakusari district, Jember Regency, East Java, that local residents have in recent years begun developing into a rural-panorama tourist spot. The word 'gumuk' is the term Jember people use for the small hills scattered across the regency's plain, so much so that Jember is nicknamed the 'city of a thousand gumuk'. Although often labelled a 'gunung' (mountain), it is in fact low and has no officially recorded elevation; reaching the top requires only a walk of about 300 metres from the main road (the Jalan PB Sudirman area) along footpaths and past homes, with no strenuous climbing trail. Its main draw is the view from the top: rice fields spread out below, the twinkling silhouette of Jember city at night, an open starry sky, and sunrise and sunset panoramas. Because it is still under development, entry is free and facilities are simple. Verified information about this hill is limited to local travel write-ups and news reports; its exact height is not documented.
