Description
Granite Peak (3,904 m) is the highest point in the U.S. state of Montana and the tenth-highest state high point in the nation. It rises in the Beartooth Mountains within the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness and is widely regarded as the second most difficult state high point to climb after Denali, combining technical climbing, poor weather, and tricky route-finding. Its classic East Ridge route crosses the Froze-to-Death Plateau and demands exposed scrambling up to Class 4 with a few short harder steps; most climbers take 2–3 days and camp on the plateau. The Southwest Couloir alternative from the south (near Cooke City) is non-technical but still long. The first ascent was in 1923 — the last of all U.S. state high points to be summited.

Routes
East Ridge via Froze-to-Death Plateau (jalur standar)
Climbing Experiences
Granite Peak trip reports consistently describe demanding terrain: a long approach across the Froze-to-Death Plateau, an exposed and technical East Ridge, and fast-changing mountain weather. Many climbers recount multiple attempts before success, the importance of route-finding, and tense moments near Montana's high point.
