Description

Gle Raya is a peak in the karst uplands of Aceh Besar Regency, Aceh Province, Indonesia. The word "Gle" is Acehnese for mountain or hill. The area comprises several closely situated high points — Wikidata records two distinct entries named "Gle Raya" near coordinates 5°22'N 95°20'E, at elevations of 836 m and 1,523 m above sea level respectively. The highest point most documented by local Acehnese sources is called Gle Raja (also spelled Glee Raja), reaching approximately 1,658 m, spanning Indrapuri and Kuta Malaka subdistricts of Aceh Besar. The geology of the Gle Raya area is dominated by karst limestone, characterised by caves, underground rivers, vertical cliffs, and karst depressions rather than volcanic features. A Dutch colonial triangulation pillar (T.3330, installed in 1938 by ENDO Marsose troops from Medan) is found at the highest point. The mountain falls within the Bukit Barisan mountain chain running along the western spine of Sumatra. Publicly verified climbing information is very limited.
