- Volcanic?
- Yes — volcano
- Coordinates
- 48.1119, -121.1142
- Difficulty
- Berat — pendakian alpine bermedan gletser: perlu tim tali, kapak es, crampon, dan pendekatan (approach) panjang berhari-hari lewat hutan belantara
- Best Season
- Akhir musim semi hingga awal musim panas (sekitar Mei–Juli) saat jembatan salju masih menutup celah gletser; akses jalan/jalur bisa masih tertutup salju lebih awal
- Permits & Rules
- Berada di dalam kawasan liar (wilderness) Mount Baker–Snoqualmie National Forest — patuhi aturan self-issued wilderness permit, kuota, dan Leave No Trace; sebagian trailhead butuh Northwest Forest Pass
- Hazards
Description
Glacier Peak (3,213 m), called Dakobed by local Indigenous peoples, is an active stratovolcano in Washington State, USA. It is the fourth-highest peak in Washington and the most isolated volcano of the Cascade Volcanic Arc — hidden from major highways so many overlook it, though its summit is visible from Seattle to the west and from the higher eastern suburbs of Vancouver. It rises at the heart of the Glacier Peak Wilderness within Mount Baker–Snoqualmie National Forest and is mantled by numerous active glaciers. With no road reaching its base, a climb demands a long multi-kilometre approach through forest and valleys before the glaciated terrain begins, making it one of the most logistically demanding Cascade volcanoes.

Routes
Disappointment (Ptarmigan) Ridge / Cool Glacier
Alpine PD/AD — variasi igir dengan medan gletser; sedikit lebih teknis dari SitkumAn alternative to the Sitkum route that climbs the Disappointment (Ptarmigan) ridge side across glaciated terrain such as the Gerdine/Cool Glacier. Chosen by climbers seeking scenic variety and a slightly more involved ridge; it still requires the long approach and glacier skills.
SourceSitkum Glacier (rute standar)
Alpine PD — glacier travel dengan tim tali, crampon & kapak es; approach hutan yang panjang mendominasi tenagaThe most common climbing route on Glacier Peak. After a long multi-kilometre approach through forest and valleys (typically via the North Fork Sauk / White Chuck trails), climbers set a high camp and ascend the Sitkum Glacier to the summit. It demands glacier-travel and crevasse-rescue skills, as snow bridges weaken toward summer.
SourceClimbing Experiences
Glacier Peak trip reports reinforce its reputation as the most isolated Cascade volcano: nearly every vlog stresses the long multi-day approach through forest, river crossings and valleys before the glaciated terrain begins, then a snow/glacier summit day roped up. The standard Sitkum Glacier route features most often, while some climb via ridges such as Disappointment (Ptarmigan) for variety. Climbers repeatedly emphasise glacier-travel skills (crampons, ice axe, crevasse rescue), fitness for the heavy approach, and time buffers, since weather and remoteness make this a logistically demanding peak.
