Description
Gjeravica (2,656 m), Đeravica in Serbian, is the highest peak in Kosovo and the second-highest summit of the Accursed Mountains (Bjeshkët e Nemuna / Prokletije) and the Dinaric Alps, after Albania's Jezercë. This non-volcanic mountain stands in western Kosovo, in the municipality of Junik, near the Albanian border. Its slopes are dotted with glacial lakes — most famously Gjeravica Lake at around 2,300 m, a source of the Erenik River. As the roof of Kosovo it is a favourite for country high-pointers and is often climbed as a branch of the cross-border Peaks of the Balkans trail linking Albania, Montenegro and Kosovo. The ascent is non-technical but long: broad meadows, glacial lakes and open ridges lead to a summit with a 360-degree panorama across the whole Accursed Mountains range.

Routes
Rute Peaks of the Balkans dari Dobërdol (via Ali Peja Pass)
Menengah–menantang: bagian dari trek lintas-batas, terbuka & bereksposurA route summiting Gjeravica as a branch of the Peaks of the Balkans trail, starting from Dobërdol in Albania and crossing into Kosovo over the Ali Peja Pass. It is the best option for those already on the cross-border trek. The climb is non-technical but fairly open and exposed, with snow risk early and late in the season, so it is often shortened to just the Ali Peja Pass in poor conditions.
SourceRute standar Junik / Gropa e Erenikut
Menengah: non-teknis, sebagian besar menanjak landaiThe shortest and most popular route to Gjeravica's summit. From the town of Junik (~1,800 m) a ~15 km dirt road is driven by 4x4 to a mountain hut at Gropa e Erenikut, then about 13 km of hiking (~865 m gain) crosses broad meadows and two glacial lakes (Gjeravica Lake) before the final climb to the 2,656 m summit. Most of the trail is a gentle ascent, with two steeper points near the lake and the summit.
SourceClimbing Experiences
As the roof of Kosovo in the heart of the Accursed Mountains, Gjeravica attracts two kinds of hikers: country high-pointers and walkers on the cross-border Peaks of the Balkans trail. The most popular route leaves Junik: a ~15 km dirt road is driven by 4x4 to a mountain hut at Gropa e Erenikut, then about 13 km of climbing (~865 m gain) crosses broad meadows and two glacial lakes before the final pull to the 2,656 m summit. Documented experiences show green pastures, clear glacial lakes and a 360-degree summit panorama — but also a warning: deep snow early and late in the season leads some hikers to turn around at the Ali Peja Pass for safety.
