Description
Gauri Sankar (7,134 m) is an iconic twin-summited peak in the Rolwaling Himal on the Nepal–Tibet border, held sacred by both Hindu and Buddhist communities: its two summits are traditionally associated with the goddess Gauri (Parvati) and the god Shankar (Shiva). For many years the mountain was closed to climbing because of its sacred status, and its summit was only reached by a very demanding technical expedition in 1979. For most visitors, therefore, Gauri Sankar is experienced not by climbing it but from the Rolwaling Valley trekking route (Simigaun–Tsho Rolpa) inside the Gaurishankar Conservation Area, or on a mountain flight from Kathmandu that reveals its dramatic ice faces alongside neighbouring Melungtse. Its blend of steep walls, spiritual meaning and remoteness makes it one of the most revered mountains in the Himalaya.

Routes
Penerbangan gunung dari Kathmandu (pengamatan udara)
Non-pendakian (wisata udara)A popular alternative for visitors who want a close view of Gauri Sankar without a long trek. Regular mountain flights from Kathmandu (e.g. the 'Everest mountain flight') fly along the Himalaya and reveal Gauri Sankar's twin summits together with Melungtse and the Everest range. This suits the fact that the Gauri Sankar summit itself is considered sacred and has long been closed to general climbing.
SourceTrek Lembah Rolwaling — Simigaun ke Tsho Rolpa (kaki Gauri Sankar)
Trekking menantang (medan terpencil, ketinggian bertahap hingga ~4.500 m)The most common way to experience Gauri Sankar without climbing it. From Simigaun the trail climbs into the Rolwaling Valley within the Gaurishankar Conservation Area, passing Sherpa villages such as Beding and Na to the glacial lake Tsho Rolpa (about 4,580 m). Along the way the ice walls of Gauri Sankar and neighbouring Melungtse dominate the skyline. The trek is remote and demands acclimatisation, with an option for experienced parties to continue over the Tashi Lapcha into the Khumbu.
SourceClimbing Experiences
Because Gauri Sankar is sacred and very rarely climbed, documented experiences are mostly Rolwaling Valley treks at its foot and mountain flights from Kathmandu that showcase its dramatic ice walls alongside Melungtse. The set below shows how visitors experience this sacred peak up close without climbing its summit.
