Description

Gannett Peak is Wyoming’s highest point, in the Wind River Range on the Continental Divide. This profile uses Wikidata’s elevation of 4,207 m, consistent with the Forest Service figure of 13,804 feet; Wikipedia lists 13,810 feet, so sources differ slightly. The glaciated granite summit requires a long alpine journey rather than an ordinary hiking trail. The western Titcomb Basin approach crosses Bonney Pass twice on summit day, while the eastern Glacier Trail follows the Dinwoody valley. Bergschrund and snow-bridge conditions change through the season; older expedition accounts do not establish present conditions.

Routes

Glacier Trail dari Trail Lake ke basecamp Dinwoody (pendekatan timur)

Trek wilderness berat; lanjutan puncak memerlukan keterampilan alpine
3–7 hari menurut penulis; bergantung tujuan dan tempo

The approach from Trail Lake near Dubois crosses Torrey Creek, climbs onto alpine flats, then follows the Dinwoody drainage to basecamp. The Hiking Project author distinguishes a backpacking destination below the glacier from a Gooseneck summit ascent, which requires additional technical guidance. This approach avoids the Bonney Pass crossing from Titcomb Basin.

Gooseneck Glacier via Titcomb Basin & Bonney Pass (sisi Pinedale)

Mountaineering: glasier, salju curam, dan scrambling Kelas 3
5–6 hari pada itinerary operator

From Elkhart Park, approach past the lakes into Titcomb Basin. Summit day crosses Bonney Pass, descends onto Dinwoody Glacier, then continues toward Gooseneck and the summit ridge. The return requires climbing back to the pass. Duration follows The Mountain Guides itinerary; allow flexibility for weather and the party’s condition.

Climbing Experiences

These videos and Alex Winn’s account highlight the demands of a long Gannett expedition. The written 2010 report adds useful context: climbing back over Bonney Pass after the summit is exhausting, and glacier crevasses remain hazardous even when a party has heard conditions are easy. One outing’s route choices and snow conditions should not be assumed to apply in later seasons.
