Description
Gangkhar Puensum (7,570 m) is the highest mountain in Bhutan and the highest mountain in the world that has never been climbed to its summit. Its name is often rendered as 'White Peak of the Three Spiritual Brothers'. It stands in the eastern Himalaya near the Bhutan–Tibet (China) border. Several expeditions attempted it in the mid-1980s after Bhutan opened climbing, but all failed. Since 1994 Bhutan has banned the climbing of peaks above 6,000 m, and since 2003 all mountaineering, because high mountains are considered sacred abodes of deities. A 1998 attempt from the Tibetan side was cancelled over permit and border issues. The summit therefore remains virgin and can only be seen from afar by trekkers in the remote Lunana region.

Routes
Pendekatan Snowman Trek (Lunana) — puncak tertutup untuk pendakian
Trek ketinggian sangat berat: rangkaian pass di atas 4.500–5.300 m, cuaca Himalaya yang ekstrem, dan keterpencilan LunanaThere is no legal summit route on Gangkhar Puensum — Bhutanese law forbids mountaineering on this sacred peak. What is possible is to view it from afar via the Snowman Trek, a legendary route crossing many high passes into the remote Lunana region at the foot of Bhutan's highest mountains. Several climbing expeditions in the mid-1980s failed to reach the top, and the summit has remained virgin since. The approach trek itself demands long acclimatisation, horse/yak logistics, and an autumn weather window.
SourceClimbing Experiences
Gangkhar Puensum (7,570 m) has never been climbed to its summit and is now closed to climbing as a sacred peak. 'Experiences' here are not summit climbs but approach treks that view it from the remote Lunana region — chiefly the Snowman Trek, one of the world's hardest — plus explainer videos on why the summit remains virgin.
