Description

Errigal (751 m) is a sharply conical quartzite mountain near Gweedore in County Donegal and the highest point in the county. Its summit is the southernmost and tallest of a chain of seven peaks that locals call the 'Seven Sisters'. Standing alone with a near-symmetrical shape and mantled in quartzite scree that can glow pink-gold at sunset, it forms one of the most iconic silhouettes in north-west Ireland. The popular route starts from a car park on the R251 road, climbing over peaty ground before a steep pull up loose scree to the upper ridge. The final stretch crosses a narrow crest known as One Man's Pass, linking the two small twin tops and giving wide views over Lough Altan, the Donegal coast and the rest of the Seven Sisters. The weather here is notoriously fickle — cloud can swallow the summit within minutes — so navigation and warm layers matter even though the climb itself is short.

Routes

Errigal sebagai bagian jelajah 'Seven Sisters'

Menengah–sulit (jarak panjang lintas beberapa puncak, medan terbuka tanpa jalur jelas)

Menengah (tanjakan tajam di scree + punggungan sempit One Man's Pass menjelang puncak)
±2–3 jam pulang-pergi

Climbing Experiences

Hiker accounts of Errigal keep returning to three things: its distinctive conical shape, the steep pull up the scree, and how quickly the weather turns. Many vlogs show the standard route from the R251 car park, climbing over peaty ground before a steep haul up loose scree to the upper ridge. The most-featured section is One Man's Pass — the narrow crest near the top linking the two small twin summits, with drops on either side. On clear days creators highlight the panorama over Lough Altan, the Donegal coast and the Seven Sisters; in cloud they stress the need for navigation, since the summit can vanish within minutes. There is also drone and sunrise footage showing the quartzite slopes glowing gold.
