Description

Errigal, or An Earagail, is a quartzite mountain in County Donegal, Ireland, within the Derryveagh Mountains and Seven Sisters group. Wikidata records 749 m at verification, while local guidance and many walking accounts still use 751 m. The popular approach starts at the R251 car park. Reports from 2025 describe an improved path with stone steps, so older descriptions of crossing bog and loose scree no longer describe the entire standard route. The steep ascent and summit ridge still demand care. Mackoght can be included in a longer circuit; coastal cloud and wind determine how much of the panorama is visible.

From the car park follow the R251 to Altan Farm access, climb Mackoght, descend to the col and join the Errigal path. Return along the main path. Distance and ascent follow the Wild Irish Walks outing; its time includes a break.
