Description
Dolok Sianak-anak is a non-volcanic peak rising 1,401 metres above sea level in North Sumatra Province, Indonesia, near coordinates 2°58'N 98°36'E — estimated to sit along the boundary between Simalungun and Karo Regencies. The word "Dolok" derives from the Batak language — particularly the Toba and Simalungun Batak dialects — meaning mountain, while "Sianak-anak" means "the children" in Batak. The name "Sianak-anak" carries historical roots in this area: during the Dutch colonial era, two protected forest areas called Hutan Lindung Sianak-anak I (designated 1916) and Sianak-anak II (1918) existed within the Simalungun kingdom's territory, later incorporated into the Dolok Tinggi Raja Nature Reserve. Although the mountain and those forest reserves are distinct entities, they share the same Batak-Simalungun naming tradition. The peak is not a volcano and does not appear in Indonesian volcanic databases. Publicly verified climbing routes and hiking records are very limited for this summit.
