Description

Diana's Peak is the highest point of Saint Helena, a volcanic island in the South Atlantic. This profile uses Wikidata's elevation of 818 m; the 2020 island map and field observations discussed by 91 County Tops give 820 m. These differing figures are not interpreted as a change in the mountain's height. The summit shares a ridge with Mount Actaeon and Cuckold's Point, within cloud forest containing endemic tree ferns and black cabbage trees. The original 81-hectare national park was launched in March 1996; introduced flax is progressively removed to restore native vegetation. The two main approaches are Cabbage Tree Road from Stitch's Ridge and Black Gate. Stepped paths connect the three summits and the postbox visitor book. Black Gate approaches through pasture and the plant-nursery area, while Cabbage Tree Road connects with a turn towards Halley's observatory site. Cloud can obscure the views even when Jamestown is sunny. The walk still requires care: wet steps and soil can be slippery, and vegetation can conceal steep edges.

From Black Gate on the Levelwood road, cross pasture and pass the nursery to reach the ridge steps. Traverse the three summits, then return along the lower path to the nursery and Black Gate. Follow local signs.

From the Stitch's Ridge lay-by on the Sandy Bay road, backtrack briefly to the Cabbage Tree Road sign. Follow the grassy track to the ridge, turn right towards the Peaks and use the stepped path across the three summits. A lower path reconnects with the approach. The local source allows 2–3 hours; older maps differ in naming the neighbouring summits, so follow signs on the ground.
