Description

Corcovado (710 m) is a granite peak rising from the Tijuca Forest above Rio de Janeiro, best known for the Art Deco statue of Christ the Redeemer (Cristo Redentor, completed 1931) that crowns its summit—one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. The top can be reached three ways: the historic Corcovado cog railway running since 1884, official park vans, or on foot along an Atlantic-rainforest trail from Parque Lage that climbs for roughly 2–3 hours. Though not technical, the hiking route is steep, humid and rooty, demanding basic fitness. From the summit unfolds a sweeping view of Guanabara Bay, Sugarloaf Mountain, the Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon and the sprawl of Rio. For safety, hikers are usually advised to start early and go in groups, as the forest trail has been a site of robberies.

Routes

Trem do Corcovado (kereta gerigi) / van resmi

Mudah (akses berkendaraan, tanpa mendaki)

Trilha do Corcovado via Parque Lage

Sedang (tanjakan curam berakar, hutan hujan Atlantik)
±2–3 jam naik (sekitar 3,5 km sekali jalan)

Climbing Experiences

Hiking Corcovado usually means following the Atlantic-rainforest trail from Parque Lage through Tijuca National Park to the foot of the Christ the Redeemer statue, or taking the cog train/van for a simpler visit. Trip reports stress the steep, rooty, humid climb, the value of starting early for safety and to beat the heat, and the panorama of Guanabara Bay and Sugarloaf from the top. The videos below cover both the Parque Lage hiking route and international visitors' perspectives.
