Description
Coma Pedrosa (2,942 m, sometimes recorded as 2,943 m) is the highest peak in the Principality of Andorra, standing in the country's north-west near the village of Arinsal in La Massana parish. A non-volcanic Pyrenean mountain of near-pyramidal shape, it lies within the Parc Natural Comunal de les Valls del Comapedrosa, Andorra's first communal nature park. Its slopes hold several glacial lakes (estanys), including the Estanys de Baiau on the western side, which lie across the Spanish border. The ascent is technically straightforward but strenuous: the trail climbs from Arinsal through forest, a valley, then alpine terrain past lakes before a rocky-ridge scramble to the top, gaining well over 1,400 m. Historically the high terrain served as a natural defence shielding Andorra from invasion. The summit offers sweeping views over Andorra, Catalonia and France.

Routes
Jalur Standar Arinsal → Refugi de Comapedrosa → Puncak
Menengah–berat: jalur bertanda baik, sepertiga akhir scrambling di punggungan batu terbukaThe most common route starts from the Nature Park car park at Arinsal (~1,580 m), climbing through forest and a valley to the Refugi de Comapedrosa (~2,260 m) near Estany de les Truites, then past Estany Negre before a steep rocky pull and light scramble to the 2,942 m summit. Well-marked, with over 1,400 m of total gain; the official ~8-hour estimate is often optimistic, so 10–12 hours is more realistic.
SourceVia Estanys de Baiau / Portella de Baiau (sisi Spanyol, GR-11)
Berat: lebih liar & teknis, tanjakan ekstrem; untuk pendaki berpengalamanA wilder alternative approaching Coma Pedrosa from the west via the Estanys de Baiau in Catalonia (Spain), climbing through the Portella de Baiau. It is one of the toughest stages of the GR-11 Transpirenaica with extreme gradients; usually done as a multi-day traverse with a refuge overnight and requiring experience.
SourceClimbing Experiences
Climbing Coma Pedrosa is a must for European country high-pointers, as it is the roof of Andorra. The standard route leaves the Nature Park car park at Arinsal, climbs through forest for about an hour, follows a valley, then crosses lake-studded alpine terrain (Estany de les Truites/Estany Negre) before a scramble up an open rocky ridge to the 2,942 m summit. A recurring theme from hikers: the trail is well-marked but far longer and harder than official estimates — many log 10–12 hours round-trip — so fitness, mountain boots, trekking poles and an early start are strongly advised. Outside summer the mountain is also climbed as a snowy ski-touring objective.
