Description
Cerro Las Minas (≈2,849 m) is the highest mountain in Honduras, set in the rugged Lempira Department in the country's west. The summit lies in the Cordillera de Celaque and is protected within Montaña de Celaque National Park, created in 1987 around hundreds of square kilometres of cloud forest. Local 1:50,000 topographic maps label the top 'Pico Celaque, 2849 m', although SRTM data suggests a slightly higher figure (about 2,870 m). The climb usually takes two days: from the park visitor centre, past camps such as Campamento Don Tomás / El Naranjo, ascending through dense mossy cloud forest to the summit. The vegetation is thick and wet, mist often blocks the views, and nights are cold — most hikers camp overnight and hire a local guide to avoid getting lost in the forest.

Jalur Pusat Pengunjung Celaque (Centro de Visitantes → Campamento → Cumbre)
Sedang–beratRute standar dari pusat pengunjung Taman Nasional Montaña de Celaque, menanjak menembus hutan awan menuju area kemah (mis. Campamento Don Tomás/El Naranjo), lalu lanjut ke cumbre 2.849 m keesokan harinya. Jalur curam, licin, dan berkabut; umumnya menyewa pemandu lokal.
Climbing Experiences
Climbing Cerro Las Minas (Pico Celaque) via Montaña de Celaque National Park is a journey to Honduras's highest point through cloud forest. Trip reports stress steep, muddy trails, near-constant mist, cold nights at camp, and dense mossy vegetation. Most videos document a two-day climb from the park visitor centre with an overnight camp before the push to the 2,849 m summit.
