Description
Cerro El Pital, at about 2,730 metres, is the highest point in El Salvador, standing right on the border with Honduras (and ranking among Honduras's highest peaks too). About 12 km from the town of La Palma in Chalatenango Department, the summit is cloaked in a lush cloud forest of pine, oak and cypress and averages around 10 °C — one of the coldest spots in this tropical country, where frost occasionally forms. Unlike many Salvadoran summits, which are volcanoes, El Pital is a non-volcanic mountain peak. The area is a popular ecotourism and camping destination: visitors drive (usually in a 4x4) up a steep dirt road from La Palma, then walk a short way through cool forest to the high point. Cold weather, mist and border-country views make it a classic 'roof of El Salvador' experience.

Routes
Akses puncak dari La Palma (jalan tanah, 4x4)
Mudah–menengah (berkendara) — jalan tanah curam dan berlumpur; kendaraan 4x4 sangat disarankanThe most common way up is to drive the steep dirt road from the town of La Palma (Chalatenango) toward the El Pital summit area, then walk a short distance through cloud forest to the high point. The road is steep and muddy when wet, so a 4x4 is strongly recommended.
