Description

Cerro de Punta (1,338 m) is the highest point in Puerto Rico, in the Cordillera Central on the boundary between the municipalities of Ponce and Jayuya. Unlike other American giants, the summit is relatively accessible: a paved road climbs from PR-143 (the Ruta Panorámica) to the radio/TV transmission-tower complex on top, and short trails run from Hacienda Gripiñas (a former coffee plantation) and the ~19 km trail network of Toro Negro State Forest. On clear days it is said to offer the best view in Puerto Rico — reportedly the north coast and San Juan (over 120 km away) are visible. Its slopes are lush with sierra palm and shelter rare endemics such as the fern Elaphoglossum serpens and Cook's holly (Ilex cookii).

Jalan aspal dari PR-143 (Ruta Panorámica)

Sangat mudah (jalan beraspal menanjak, sempit & berkelok)

Beberapa menit berkendara + jalan kaki singkat ke puncak

Akses paling umum: dari PR-143 (Ruta Panorámica) sebuah jalan aspal curam menanjak langsung ke kompleks menara pemancar radio/TV di puncak. Cocok untuk kunjungan singkat; hati-hati pada jalan sempit, tikungan tajam, dan kabut yang menurunkan jarak pandang.

Alternatif berjalan kaki lewat jalur dari Hacienda Gripiñas (bekas perkebunan kopi, kini penginapan) atau jaringan ±19 km jalur di Hutan Negara Toro Negro yang dikelola DRNA. Menembus hutan palma sierra yang rimbun dengan air terjun dan flora endemik sebelum mencapai puncak.
