Description

Cerro Champaquí (2,790 m) is the highest point of Córdoba Province and the most iconic summit of Argentina's Sierras de Córdoba — often called the 'techo de Córdoba' (roof of Córdoba). Though far lower than the Andes, it is a favourite trekking destination for its sweeping sierra terrain, river valleys, and rocky summit with small lagoons nearby. The most classic route starts from Villa Alpina: a circuit of about 42 km usually done over three days, camping by the Río Tabaquillo before reaching the summit on the second day. A much shorter approach runs from Los Linderos on the Villa Yacanto side, using a 4x4 followed by a brief walk. Because of fog and rapidly changing weather, a licensed local guide is commonly recommended for less-experienced hikers.

Routes

Los Linderos (Villa Yacanto) — Rute Singkat

Mudah–sedang (dengan bantuan 4x4)
+300 m Setengah hari–1 hari

A far shorter approach from the Villa Yacanto side: a 4x4 drives near Cerro Linderos, then a walk of about 45 minutes reaches the Champaquí summit. A popular option for those with limited time or wanting to avoid the multi-day trek, though fog and fast-changing summit weather still demand caution.

Villa Alpina (Rute Klasik 3 Hari)

Sedang (trekking panjang dengan bermalam)
+1200 m 3 hari (sirkuit ±42 km)

The most classic ascent of Champaquí, starting from Villa Alpina (about 40 km from Villa General Belgrano). It is typically done over three days: day one to a campsite/refuge by the Río Tabaquillo, day two up to the summit and back to camp, and day three back to the trailhead. It crosses private land with access fees; a licensed guide is recommended for the inexperienced.

Climbing Experiences

Cerro Champaquí (2,790 m), the 'roof of Córdoba', is a favourite sierra trek in central Argentina. Hiker content highlights the classic 3-day route from Villa Alpina, camping by the Río Tabaquillo, the shorter Los Linderos approach, and the value of a guide given fog and fast-changing weather.
