Description

Buyu Balease belongs to the Tolangi–Balease group in North Luwu, South Sulawesi. Sources disagree on its elevation: climbers describe Balease as 2,894 m and Tolangi as 3,016 m, while Wikidata assigns 3,016 m to Balease; Gunung Bagging also flags uncertainty over the highest summit. This profile retains 2,894 m to follow the naming in local reports, rather than presenting a new survey result. Accounts from Bantimurung describe a multi-day expedition through rooted forest and ridges, crossing Tolangi and Lembah Waru before Balease. Reliance on collected rainwater and difficult navigation are recurring constraints; these historical reports do not establish present trail conditions or access.

Routes

Bantimurung – Tolangi – Lembah Waru – Balease

Ekspedisi hutan berat / Demanding jungle expedition
8–10 hari pulang-pergi dalam laporan historis / 8–10 days return in historical reports

Jelatang’s account starts at Bantimurung, crossing fields, streams and a waterfall before climbing ridges toward Tolangi. The continuation to Balease passes Lembah Waru and moss forest. The duration comes from a historical account; trail conditions, water, weather and team ability can change the time required. Confirm access locally.

Climbing Experiences

Three writers describe Tolangi–Balease as a jungle expedition requiring careful navigation and water planning. Dagri Nizar recounts a 2009 trip; Bejo Setiawan and Anchi Jelatang offer two perspectives on the same January 2012 TOBAKU expedition, rather than separate departures. These accounts illustrate the terrain but do not establish current access.
