Description
Buttu Sambalagian is a low summit in West Sulawesi Province, Indonesia, at roughly 3°07′36″S 118°51′36″E. The Cebuano Wikipedia geographic-names database — sourced from the U.S. NGA-GNS gazetteer — records an elevation at the point of about 181 m, with the highest point nearby at about 477 m, roughly 1.0 km to the south. Notably, a check against the open Open-Meteo digital elevation model at the same coordinate instead returns about 502 m; this large discrepancy likely reflects imprecision in the NGA-GNS point location (gazetteer coordinates can miss the actual summit, and the 502 m reading is closer to the recorded 477 m peak nearby), so the exact elevation cannot be confirmed and is deliberately not stated as a single figure. The surrounding area is hilly and almost entirely forested, with a very low population density of about 17 people/km² and a tropical climate; the average temperature is about 21 °C (warmest October ~23 °C, coolest July ~20 °C) and annual rainfall about 1,674 mm, wettest in May (~248 mm) and driest in August (~36 mm). The point is recorded in OpenStreetMap as natural=peak, sourced from NGA-GNS, and has entries in Wikidata (Q26722937) and GeoNames (7384936). The name "Buttu" means "mountain" in the local language, a naming pattern common across the mountains of western and southern Sulawesi. Note: beyond its position and classification as a mountain, Buttu Sambalagian has virtually no verified climbing, trail, or tourism documentation; this profile is deliberately limited to referenceable geographic facts and adds no unsourced claims.
