Description
Buttu Paken is a summit in Tana Toraja Regency, South Sulawesi Province, Indonesia, at roughly 3°10′20″S 119°33′54″E. The Cebuano Wikipedia geographic-names database — sourced from the NGA-GNS gazetteer — records an elevation of about 1,587 m and classes it as a bukid (mountain); the open Open-Meteo digital elevation model at the same point returns about 1,562 m, placing the peak in the 1,560–1,590 m range. The point is also recorded in OpenStreetMap as natural=peak, sourced from NGA-GNS. The name "Buttu" (the variant "buntu" in the Toraja language) means "mountain/hill," a name element extremely common throughout the Toraja highlands, as seen in names such as Buntu Karua and Buttu Kabobong; the meaning of the word is also explained via Kompas reporting on Enrekang's Gunung Nona (Buttu Kabobong), a district bordering Toraja. Buttu Paken lies among the cool hills and valleys of the Toraja cultural highlands. Data-honesty note: beyond its position, elevation, and classification as a mountain, Buttu Paken has no verified climbing-trail or tourism documentation; this profile is limited to referenceable geographic facts and adds no unsourced claims.
