Description
Buttu Orong is a summit in Mamasa Regency, West Sulawesi Province, Indonesia, at roughly 2°55′35″S 119°25′07″E, on the eastern side of the Mamasa valley. The point is recorded in OpenStreetMap as natural=peak sourced from the NGA-GNS gazetteer, and appears in the Cebuano Wikipedia geographic-names database as one of two identically named places in West Sulawesi (the other lies further south near 3°19′S). Neither source lists an elevation; a check against the open Open-Meteo digital elevation model at the summit point returns about 1,314 m, so the figure given here is a DEM estimate rather than a field survey. The word "buttu" in the local language means "mountain," a naming pattern common across western–southern Sulawesi (compare "Buttu Kabobong," the local name of Enrekang's Gunung Nona, explained by Kompas). Buttu Orong sits in the cool, often misty Mamasa highlands, a region popularly called a "land above the clouds." Data-honesty note: it should be distinguished from the "Tanete/Puncak Orong" viewpoint sometimes mentioned in Messawa District; this point's coordinates cannot be confirmed to refer to that tourist spot, so this profile keeps to verified geographic facts (location, classification as a mountain, estimated elevation) and adds no unverifiable trail or tourism claims.
