Description

Buntu Rantemario (3,478 m) is the highest peak of the Latimojong Range and the highest point on the island of Sulawesi, located in South Sulawesi on the border between Enrekang and Luwu regencies. Unlike many Indonesian mountains, Latimojong is not a volcano but a non-volcanic mountain range. Some sources name Rantekombola as the range's high point, but Rantemario is the best known and most frequently climbed summit. The popular route begins at Karangan village and climbs through a series of trail posts with long ascents under humid montane forest. As one of Indonesia's "Seven Summits," Rantemario is a goal for climbers aiming to complete the highest peaks of each major island.
