Description
Bulu Mopeaanooleo is a mountain of roughly 2,265 m (some SRTM estimates put it at about 2,242 m) in Puncak Monapa Village, Lasusua District, North Kolaka Regency, Southeast Sulawesi—on the southeastern arm of Sulawesi. Though little known, its summit is fairly prominent (about 1,026 m of prominence), qualifying it as a "Ribu" in Indonesian peak databases. Its climbing route was only pioneered in 2012 by the Lentera Wanabaya expedition team (Mahacala UHO), with a basecamp in Puncak Monapa at about 225 m. The forest remains dense with many water sources along the trail; vegetation includes orchids, pitcher plants, forest pandanus and various palms, while recorded fauna include anoa (from tracks and droppings), tarsiers, black eagles and reticulated pythons. The climb is demanding because the trail is not well established, the terrain is remote, and it takes several days. Verified data on this mountain remains limited.
