Description

Bukit Raya (2,278 m) is the highest peak on Borneo's Indonesian side, situated within Bukit Baka–Bukit Raya National Park on the border of West and Central Kalimantan, as part of the Schwaner Mountains. Locally known as Puncak Kakam or Puncak Rajawali, it is one of Indonesia's Seven Summits and requires a demanding four-to-five day jungle trek from the Korong HP trailhead covering roughly 23 km one way. A park entry permit (SIMAKSI) is mandatory, and the ascent involves dense rainforest navigation, river crossings, and steep mossy terrain near the summit.

Routes

Akses sisi Kalimantan Tengah (Sungai Ella / kawasan TNBBBR)

Berat (jalur rimba terpencil, membutuhkan izin taman nasional & pemandu)
Beberapa hari; alternatif yang lebih jarang digunakan

Bukit Raya sits on the border of West and Central Kalimantan, so besides Rantau Malam it can also be approached from the Central Kalimantan side through the Bukit Baka–Bukit Raya National Park management area. Climbing anywhere in this national park requires a permit (SIMAKSI) and is best done with local guides given the complex, sparsely marked jungle terrain.

Jalur Rantau Malam (Serawai, Kalimantan Barat) — rute utama Seven Summits

Berat (trek rimba multi-hari, medan berlumpur, lintah/pacet, kelembapan tinggi, sangat terpencil)
5–7 hari pulang-pergi (kemah beberapa malam di dalam rimba)

The route commonly used by Seven-Summits climbers to the Bukit Raya summit (2,278 m) starts from Rantau Malam village in Serawai district, West Kalimantan, inside Bukit Baka–Bukit Raya National Park. The trail threads lowland tropical jungle and then climbs into mossy montane forest over several days, often following rivers and crossing muddy terrain. Climbers face leeches and the high humidity typical of Bornean forest. The summit is enclosed by dense vegetation with no open view, so the main challenge is pushing through a very remote jungle. The best window is roughly June–September when the trail is drier.

Climbing Experiences

Bukit Raya (2,278 m) is the highest point of Borneo/Kalimantan and one of Indonesia's Seven Summits, located in Bukit Baka–Bukit Raya National Park on the border of West and Central Kalimantan. The common Seven-Summits route starts from Rantau Malam village (Serawai, West Kalimantan), pushing through lowland tropical jungle up to mossy montane forest over several days. Climbers describe long river- and forest-following approaches, muddy terrain, leeches, high humidity, and a truly remote interior—alongside the national park's biodiversity. The summit is often enclosed by dense vegetation with no open view, so the appeal lies in the jungle challenge rather than panoramas.
