Description
Bukit Batuayau — better known as Gunung Batuayau or Gunung Batu Ayau — is a roughly 1,642 m peak in the Müller Mountains, the range that runs through the heart of Borneo near the border of East and Central Kalimantan. With a topographic prominence of about 1,037 m it ranks among Indonesia's 'Ribu' (highly prominent peaks). It is built of old karst limestone and dolomite rock, and the massif is often cited as a natural divide between East and Central Kalimantan. Lying deep in Borneo's interior wilderness, Batuayau is almost untouched by recreational climbing: even hiking databases record very little about its trails, permits, or water sources, so reaching it resembles a jungle expedition rather than an ordinary hike. Reported elevations vary between sources (some give about 1,492 m on the Central Kalimantan side), reflecting how little detailed surveying this remote summit has had. Verified information on the mountain remains very limited.
