Description

Blue Mountain Peak (2,256 m) is the highest point in Jamaica and one of the tallest summits in the Caribbean, set inside the UNESCO-listed Blue and John Crow Mountains National Park. The classic hike starts from the Penlyne Castle / Whitfield Hall area and runs about 9 km through montane and elfin forest, via the winding 'Jacob's Ladder' switchbacks and the Portland Gap shelter. Many hikers set off around 1–2 a.m. to reach the summit for sunrise; on a clear morning the view stretches to Kingston, both coasts of Jamaica, and reportedly even Cuba. The area is also the heart of the renowned Blue Mountain coffee region.
