Description

Gunung Betina ("Female Mountain") is a granite hill on the northern side of Karimun Besar Island, in Desa Pongkar/Pasir Panjang, Meral Barat District, Karimun Regency, Riau Islands. Together with its taller neighbour Gunung Jantan ("Male Mountain", about 439 m and the island's high point, visible even from Singapore and Malaysia), the two form a paired massif woven into local folklore — a legend of a quarrelling husband and wife turned to stone. Betina's summit, reported at around 350 m, is reached by a short forest trail in roughly 40–60 minutes, near the Pongkar Waterfall. The hill's forest is a designated water-catchment and community water source, so proposed granite quarrying at its foot drew opposition over flood and collapse risks. Summit elevation figures still vary between sources, so ~350 m should be treated as approximate.
