Description
Annapurna I is the world's 10th-highest mountain at 8,091 metres, in Gandaki Province, Nepal — the highest peak of the Annapurna massif and a non-volcanic orogenic peak. It was the first eight-thousander ever climbed (French expedition, 1950) but is notorious as one of the deadliest mountains owing to frequent avalanches.

Routes
North Face (jalur asli Prancis 1950)
Sangat sulit / serius (ancaman longsor objektif berat)Inilah rute ekspedisi Prancis 1950 pimpinan Maurice Herzog dan Louis Lachenal — pendakian pertama dalam sejarah atas puncak 8.000-an mana pun. Jalur ini menanjak lewat dinding utara dari sisi Sanctuary dan tetap menjadi garis komersial standar hingga kini, terancam longsor es dan jatuhan serac yang menjadikan Annapurna I secara statistik salah satu 8.000-an paling mematikan. High camp umumnya dipasang antara ~5.100 m hingga ~7.400 m sebelum dorongan summit panjang.
Trek Annapurna Base Camp / Annapurna Sanctuary

Causes of death
- Avalanche
💡 Avalanches are the primary threat on Annapurna. Avoid open slopes after storms/snowfall, monitor avalanche forecasts, and choose a stable weather window.
Source - Fall
💡 The ~3,000 m south face is extremely steep and committing. Use ropes and protection; don't push on when exhausted or visibility is poor.
Source - Severe weather
💡 Annapurna's weather changes fast. Build in buffer days and set a disciplined turnaround time.

Notable incidents
- 1950 First-ascent expedition (1950) — severe frostbite
Maurice Herzog and Louis Lachenal became the first people to summit any eight-thousander, but descended in critical condition with severe frostbite that cost them parts of their fingers and toes. A classic reminder that reaching the summit is only half the journey — safety is decided on the descent.

Climbing Experiences
Annapurna I (8,091 m), the world's 10th-highest peak, was the first 8000er ever summited (1950 French expedition) and is also statistically one of the deadliest because of constant ice-avalanche and serac-fall danger. The films and documentaries below show real summit expeditions — including a no-supplemental-oxygen ascent and a 'successful failure' story — alongside its far gentler side: the Annapurna Base Camp (Sanctuary) trek to the glacial amphitheatre at its foot.
