Description

Alvand (main summit about 3,580 m) is a subrange of the Zagros Mountains in western Iran, roughly 10 km south of the city of Hamadan. The main body of the range extends about 50 km east–west with a maximum north–south width of about 30 km, cut by many deep valleys. Formed as part of the Zagros orogeny in the late Jurassic and early Cretaceous, Alvand is made mostly of granite and diorite (intrusive rock) — it is not a volcano — and rises sharply from the surrounding plains. Although there are no settlements on the mountain itself, its foothills and valleys hold many towns such as Hamadan, Malayer, and Tuyserkan. Thanks to its proximity to Hamadan and scenic valleys like Ganjnameh, Alvand is one of western Iran's most popular hiking destinations — from day hikes to waterfalls and springs to summit climbs and traverses of the Alvand–Dalkhani arête.

Routes

Jalur puncak dari Hamadan (lembah Ganjnameh / Tarik Darreh)

Menengah, non-teknis (musim hangat)
±1–2 hari

The most common route to the Alvand summit (3,580 m) starts on the Hamadan side via scenic valleys such as Ganjnameh (with its waterfall and ancient inscriptions) or Tarik Darreh. It is a long uphill hike through deep valleys and granite slopes to the top, with no technical difficulty in the warm season. Its closeness to the city of Hamadan makes it one of western Iran's most popular lines.

Pemayaran punggung Alvand–Dalkhani (arête)

Menengah–sulit (skrambling ketinggian di punggung)
±1–2 hari

A more demanding route follows the arête linking the Alvand summits toward Dalkhani. Climbers move along a rocky ridge with wind exposure and wide views over the Hamadan plain and Markazi Province. It requires stamina, navigation, and scrambling ability, especially given the fast-changing high-altitude weather.
