Description
The Alpspitze (2,628 m) is a pyramid-shaped limestone peak in the Wetterstein range of Bavaria, Germany, and the emblem of the resort town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Its sharp summit is among the best-known and most striking mountains of the Northern Limestone Alps, built mainly of Upper-Triassic Wetterstein limestone. The north side falls away as a steep wall facing the Höllental cirque, while other flanks are reached by the Alpspitzbahn cable car up to the Osterfelderkopf station (2,033 m). From there the normal route to the top follows the Alpspitzferrata — one of Germany's classic via ferratas, secured with steel cables, iron rungs and ladders. Near the top station stands the AlpspiX viewing platform, cantilevered over the Höllental gorge and popular with non-climbing visitors. The area forms part of the Garmisch-Classic recreation zone and is one of Bavaria's busiest destinations for hiking, via ferrata and skiing.

Routes
Alpspitzferrata via Osterfelderkopf — Jalur Normal
Via ferrata mudah (tingkat A/B); sebagian besar diamankan kabel & pijakan besi; sangat ramai; cocok untuk pemula bugar yang membawa set ferrataThe Alpspitze's normal route. Ride the Alpspitzbahn cable car from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to the Osterfelderkopf station (2,033 m), which cuts out about 1,300 m of ascent and leaves roughly 600 m to the 2,628 m summit. From the station the route follows the Alpspitzferrata — a classic German via ferrata secured with steel cables, ladders and iron rungs along its exposed sections. Its extensive protection makes it a popular 'first Klettersteig', yet it still requires a via-ferrata set, helmet and a cool head. Settled weather is essential, as afternoon thunderstorms are the main hazard.
SourceLingkar Puncak — Ferrata naik, Ostgrat & Nordwandsteig turun
Naik ferrata mudah (A/B); turun via Ostgrat (punggung timur) dan Nordwandsteig (jalur dinding utara) lebih menuntut & bereksposurThe classic Alpspitze loop: ascend the Alpspitzferrata to the summit, then descend the Ostgrat (east ridge) and traverse the Nordwandsteig — a path that arcs east into the Oberkar and follows the cirque edge back toward the station. The descent is often rated harder than the climb because of exposure and rocky terrain. A popular add-on near Osterfelderkopf is the AlpspiX viewing platform — two curved metal walkways cantilevering 13 m over the Höllental gorge and crossing to form an 'X'.
SourceClimbing Experiences
Most Alpspitze accounts center on the Alpspitzferrata — the classic via ferrata that starts at the Osterfelderkopf cable-car station (2,033 m). The Alpspitzbahn gondola removes about 1,300 m of ascent, leaving roughly 600 m to the 2,628 m summit, and fit hikers typically reach the top in about 2 hours along the heavily frequented, cabled line. Recurring themes across vlogs and reports: the ferrata is often pitched as a good 'first Klettersteig' thanks to its extensive protection, yet it still demands a via-ferrata set, helmet, a cool head on exposed sections, and settled weather. Many close the outing as a round trip: up the ferrata, then down the Ostgrat (east ridge) and Nordwandsteig (north-face path). A frequent add-on is the AlpspiX viewing platform at Osterfelderkopf, cantilevered over the Höllental gorge.
